COMING HOME TO THE BODY
Coming Home to the Body is a free, 90 minute experiential evening exploring why our bodies get stuck in certain patterns, how those patterns show up as tension, compensation, posture, pain, and movement, and what can help them actually change.
We’ll move. We’ll experiment. We’ll notice. We’ll ask questions.
This experience is designed for you to leave understanding something about your own body that you didn’t understand when you walked in.
Thursday, September 3 | 6:30 to 8:00 PM

Most of us have been taught to pay attention to our bodies when something hurts.
Stretch the tight thing.
Strengthen the weak thing.
Massage the sore thing.
Rest the irritated thing.
And sometimes that works.
But when the same tension, restriction, instability, or pain keeps returning, it may be time to ask a different question.
Your body is incredibly good at adapting. Something gets injured, something else takes over. One area loses mobility, another finds a way to create movement.
Over time, those adaptations can become patterns.
That is why the thing screaming for your attention today may be connected to something you haven’t considered yet.
Your body may not need you to try harder. It may need you to understand the pattern.
I created this evening to give you a different way to think about your body, not as a collection of isolated parts that constantly need to be corrected, but as an interconnected structure that has adapted to your life.
Together, we’ll explore those connections through conversation, movement, observation, and experimentation.
No, I am not inviting you to my new space for a 90 minute anatomy lecture.
I’ll help you explore the relationships between fascia, posture, compensation, movement, and pain in ways you can experience in your own body, not just hear me explain.
And there will be plenty of room for your questions.
You do not need experience with yoga, bodywork, fascia, or Structural Integration.
You do not need to be flexible, athletic, or pain free.

I’m Crystal Oostema, the practitioner behind Yoga Integration®.
My work brings together Structural Integration, therapeutic movement, yoga, and years of hands on experience helping people better understand the relationships within their bodies.
Again and again, I see what becomes possible when someone stops looking only at the place that hurts and begins seeing how their entire body is participating in the pattern.
Coming Home to the Body gives me the opportunity to bring those conversations out of the treatment room and into our Sitka community.
And this one is particularly special.
For the first time, I get to welcome you into my permanent treatment home in Sitka, inside Dr. Alicia Hasseltine’s new physical therapy clinic, Medicine by Movement Wellness and PT.
You might notice how differently you stand after one small movement.
You might understand why one side of your body feels different from the other.
You might recognize a compensation you’ve never noticed before or finally find language for something you’ve experienced for years.
There is no performance here. No keeping up. No expectation that you already understand this work.
You get to arrive, get curious, and pay attention.

During our 90 minutes together, we’ll explore:
How different areas of your body influence one another.
How the body adapts over time and why some patterns become difficult to change.
What everyday movement can tell us about how your body is organized.
Why the place you feel discomfort may only be one piece of the story.
How this work approaches the body as an interconnected whole rather than chasing individual symptoms.
How ten progressive Structural Integration sessions allow us to work systematically with long standing patterns, explore relationships throughout the body, and give your body time to integrate change from one session into the next.
I’ll also answer questions about the work and what it could look like for you.
When you understand more about what your body is doing, you can do more than react to whatever hurts today.
You begin noticing patterns.
You ask better questions.
You make more informed decisions about movement, treatment, recovery, and care.
You start seeing relationships between the shoulder, hip, back, neck, foot, knee, and everything in between.
That is what I want to give you during Coming Home to the Body:
There is one more reason this Coming Home to the Body feels especially meaningful.
September 3 is my 45th birthday.
Apparently, I’ve decided the best way to celebrate turning 45 is to teach Sitka about fascia, welcome everyone into my new treatment home, and feed you snacks from Highliner Coffee Co.
Honestly, that feels pretty on brand.
And because 45 became the theme, everyone who attends will also receive:
inside my new streaming, on demand movement membership.
After your complimentary 45 days, you can continue for $45 per month, and that rate will remain yours for as long as you remain a member.
I’ll also share more about opportunities to begin the 10 Series this fall. Because those sessions require protected, recurring space in my calendar, availability is intentionally limited.
But you don’t need to decide any of that today.
For now, come experience the work.
Bring your body.
Bring your questions.
Bring your curiosity.
I’ll take care of the snacks.
